Biography

Margarita graduated in 1979 from the National University of Colombia in Bogota, Colombia with a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy. In 1980 she became a registered occupational therapist in the USA. She began her career at Jackson Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation center in Miami, FL, working in the Neuro- Rehab Unit, Hand Unit and Spinal Cord Unit, where she became assistant supervisor. In 1983, she joined Humana Hospital of the Palm Beaches, West Palm Beach, FL., and was honored as employee of the quarter. In 1985, she joined North Palm Beach Hand Rehabilitation in North Palm Beach, FL as staff hand therapist. She joined Treasure Coast Sport Medicine, later Health South in Port St Lucie, FL as a senior hand therapist and upper extremity specialist in 1988. She later became a Certified Hand Therapist, and in 1994, Margarita opened Vileno Therapy of Treasure Coast, FL. In 2004, Margarita moved to Virginia and joined INOVA Physical Therapy as a coordinator of the hand therapy program. In 2005, she joined Commonwealth Orthopaedics as a hand therapist and upper extremity specialist. Finally, in 2007, she joined Prince William Orthopaedics in Manassas, VA, now member of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics, as a hand therapist and upper extremity specialist.

Margarita has received extensive training in Lemphedema management. She has been invited on three occasions to present to the Venezuelan Society of Hand Surgeons and Hand Therapists, and she has presented as a guest speaker to the Colombian Society of Hand Therapists and the Department of Occupational Therapy at the National University of Colombia, S.A. She has mentored many students and therapists throughout the years.
